That's what I did, during my long and frustrating approach to a reliable roll.  I think I still start the hip snap  little late.  As a result, I sometimes characterize my roll as a "Sweep-to-C."

Another helpful component to the sweep is the action of bringing the torso, not just the paddle, to the surface during the sweep.  This provides lots of support and makes it easier to rotate the boat under the body.
