It looks like Icom is coming off with a new radio that seems to be a bit more hardy. I've seen one price at $395. Anyone now much about this radio? The NiCd battery is good for daily use, but not for occasional use as many kayakers would do. I just bought the Icom M1V and find that it is fairly solid. The main body is aluminum and the other bits are a relatively tough plastic. It doesn't seem fragile at all - certainly not like my cell phone or, to a lesser extent, my GPS. I haven't heard of anyone having reliability problems with the M1V, so going to a tougher M90 doesn't seem to be a big improvement. I'd say, save your money and buy a lesser model than the M90. The M88 is about $100 cheaper and the M1V is about half the M90's price. The former still has LMR channels if you need them. Consider also the Standard Horizon models.
