I purchased a Volvo XC-70 Cross Country with kayaking requirements specifically in mind when I purchased it. It is basically a beefed up station wagon, similar to the Outback, with high ground clearance and all-wheel drive. I wanted something lower to the ground with good storage capacity, and I was tired of the SUV look. I have had the car for one year, and so far I am very happy with it. It is a bit pricey, but the cost was about the same as a fully loaded Outback when I was comparison shopping, so I went for the Volvo.
