This site is practical, well organized, and easy to use. Its also
free. Kids like computers. Maybe you all can sit down with some rope
and see what happens.

I second "The Ashley Book of Knots." I think that book must have every
knot ever invented in it - and then some! It contains both practical knots
as well as
decorative, and even trick and puzzle knots. If your into knots at all then
it's really a must have.

As far as paddling vehicles go, the beach I regularly surf at often gets
pretty crowded in the parking area, so cars will be parked as tight as
possible along the beach making it almost impossible to access the car from
the side doors unless you have a sliding door like on my last mini van. The
mini van may not be considered a "cool" car, but I sure miss it and it's
sliding side door every time I go surfing.
