John, Man what a bummer. But remember, If you can build it out of wood, you can repair it also. There was a site where a guy rebuilt a kayak the looked beyond repair, but I don't have it anymore. Talk to Jim et al on the is forum, he has rebuilt one that was broken it half. That looks like an oak tree, so maybe you could split out some ribs for a skin on frame kayak.
