You can choose to stay "inside" and camp on chickees and look at mangroves or venture "outside" to find a few beaches. I visited this past March and, inside, found turtles, eagles and pelicans. Outside found dolphins, pelicans, osprey, shark. I'm told Crocs tend to be outside, Gators inside but I only saw Gators along the Tamiami when I was not in a boat. There was a whole bunch of splashing going on all night while on the chickee.... Also, racoons there are well trained to remove VCP hatch covers.
