Been there done that. The one consistent aspect of this discussion and all similar discussions is that it involves groups. Want to avoid liability? Paddle solo. I used to, quit for a while while serving on various paddling club Boards of directors, and now paddle alone again. For a while I signed a waiver for those who went on trips I organized. It promised that should I be injured while trying to rescue their sorry butts neither I nor my family would sue them or their families.
