Although not a fan of lawyers or litigation, I think it is a cheap excuse to blame the lawyers for your lack of interest in leading trips. Personally, I am not big on leading trips because I think it is a pain. I do worry about the safety of people under my guidance, and I would much rather not have that responsibility. It amounts to basic laziness and the selfish desire to enjoy myself without worrying about others. I would like to pawn off my selfishness on the backs of personal injury lawyers, but it isn't their fault. If you really want to lead club trips, do it. Your risk of being sued is about the same as you drowning while paddling alone. Sure, shit happens, and in their grief survivors may lash out, but don't blame someone else if you really just don't want to be bothered. It is your decision and your responsibility. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
