Paddlewisers, Those who have negative stereotypes for people in LA or the rest of California watch too many TV shows. Organizing club paddles isn't so bad. First, announce the paddle in a manner that almost anyone who isn't qualified won't show up. You really have to scare them with how fast the paddle and how bad the conditions are going to be. Second, have a good clause. Mine is usually: "You are welcome to share the ocean with us. Just be self-sufficient, responsible for your own safety, and willing to be left behind if you fall behind." Try to sue me with that one! Third, once the paddle starts, quickly identify paddlers who can't handle the conditions and politely send them back. They are usually thankful for it.
