FWIW: The Island Kayaks design I have heard is a close reproduction of the original Igdlorssuit kayak built by Emanuel Kornielsen and brought back to Scotland by Ken Taylor in 1959 and surveyed by Duncan Wining. It is in fact the design that begot the Anas Acuta and Pintail and later the Nordkap and Romany. The Kornielsen/Taylor/Wining is the grand daddy of all modern glass fiber production boats. I would love to try one of the Island Kayaks renditions. If it is anything like the S&G rendition of this design, built by Steve Maynard that I had the chance to try once in it should be like the Anas without the bad habbits. The Maynard rendition paddled straight, was fast, yet turned easily and did not have that wall that the Annas hits when you push it. here is the Maynard kayak. http://www.qajaqusa.org/gallery/madness_2004/507_G After Many years away from kayaking Ken Taylor, unaware of what the kayak he brought back from Greenland had begot, came back to kayaking. He built a faithful reproduction of the original and brought it to the Delmarva retereat last year. Here are a few pitures of the kayak next to a Anas. http://www.qajaqusa.org/gallery/delmarva04/IMG_1186 http://www.qajaqusa.org/gallery/delmarva04/IMG_1178 http://www.qajaqusa.org/gallery/delmarva04/IMG_1189 Ken Taylor: http://www.qajaqusa.org/gallery/delmarva04/d04hg_kenskayak michael ----- Original Message ----- From: "Colin Calder" <colin.calder_at_abdn.ac.uk> > The boat is an island expedition.
