(resending the content of my email - demime doesn't like me)

Is it too late to reserve platform camping for this coming December? My young bro wants to go, but I'm not finding where to make reservations, and fear it is too late.

Is it all 'just' mangrove swamp? I mean, I can see the beauty of it, but maybe not a week's worth of beauty...

I'm from SoFla, so I know mangroves.

Thanks,

Ed

You can only reserve some 24 hours in advance, others on arrival. It may
have changed since I've been there. Lots of mangroves, dolphins, bugs, etc.
Jeff Bingham is on the list and he knows the area really well. Jeff lives in
Ft. Lauderdale. Hopefully he'll appear soon...

Here's a link to the NPS Site for the area:
http://www.nps.gov/ever/

Click on the "Wilderness Camping" link from this page for the info you are
looking for. You can choose to stay "inside" and camp on chickees and look at
mangroves or venture "outside" to find a few beaches.

I visited this past March and, inside, found turtles, eagles and pelicans.
Outside found dolphins, pelicans, osprey, shark. I'm told Crocs tend to be
outside, Gators inside but I only saw Gators along the Tamiami when I was not
in a boat. There was a whole bunch of splashing going on all night while on
the chickee.... Also, racoons there are well trained to remove VCP hatch
covers.
