Mike- I'm not sure how long your kayak is, but I use a Fulton Canoe Caddy rack which mounts in the hitch receiver on my Toyota Tundra. I now carry my Impex Assateague with this truck, putting the stern on the hitch rack, and the bow on a Thule rack mounted on the roof of the cab. If you want something which mounts lower in the truck, you might look at the Cabela's website. I think they have a piece which mounts in the hitch receiver, but extends back a few feet, possibly suitable for carrying lumber, plywood, and even a kayak.
