Michael, et al - I'm sure that many, if not all persons who have ever listed something on the 'net for sale have received similar fraudulent replies. In general, the reply is from somewhere outside the country in which the item for sale is located. Most times, the buyer offers to send a check of some sort (certified, bank, cashier's or something of that ilk), but notes that it will exceed the purchase price by a bit...anywhere from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand dollars. You're to send the buyer the difference (usually via Western Union Transfer, or something like that), and the "shipping agent" will contact you for the pickup. Once you've sent the Western Union Transfer, then you will: 1)wait (in vain) for the "shipping agent" to contact you, and 2) find (anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months later) that the check you deposited was no good. You still have the boat, however. I have recently ben contacted by this individual about buying one of the kayaks I have listed and It had all the markings of a scam. In a rush to send a check, no questions asked, and directions about contacting his shiping agent for pickup, and then all comunications suddenly cease. Most strange indeed. michael *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
