Not directly related, but anyone know the life expectancy of plastic boats? I have an 11 year-old Prijon Seayak. It was red, but has faded greatly over the years. It's been taking a lot of abuse in the shallow rivers of Central PA, but seems to be holding up fine for now. I spray UV protector on it several times a year, but it lives on my roof rack, exposed to the sun nearly year-round. never really thought of the plastic getting brittle. I've used it in sub-freezing temps to 100 degrees. So far, so good!
