As one of the exhibitors one the beach (Seaward Kayaks), we were visited on
the beach by a person in a coastguard uniform who stated that the beach was
closed. There would be no safety boats out so we could not launch clients
 from the beach.

I understood this because the insurance that exhibitors work under demands
that safety boats are on the water otherwise each exhibitor assumes the
responsibility and liability for launching clients.

Nikki Rekman from TAPS came along the beach a few minutes later, confirmed
the Coastguard directive, but asked us, as an exhibitor, not to pack up
immediately but wait until noon to see if the conditions improved and the
Coastguard directive changed. Conditions did not change and we packed up our
 beach display at noon.
