I'm on the same task, and have chosen a bulkhead fitting made be Blue Sea 
Systems called CableClam.  They can be found in many online boat supply 
stores in amongst the marine radio antenna installation goodies, and come in 
several sizes.  What it looks like is a rubber beaker stopper with a plastic 
taper compressor cover.  You drilI holes in the stopper appropriate for the 
wire size, cut a slice from hole to outer edge, insert wires, and clamp it 
down.  I got the smallest one offered...  They are a little expensive, but 
are well made and look like they would be a very reliable seal.  But I 
haven't put the parts together so can't report anything.  Please check it 
out...
