Hi Peter, I just put my Garmin GPS 72 on the deck with no protection at all. No problems reading it so far either... even in bright sunlight and even with my eyes.... I can read it without using reading glasses. At night I use a small LED light with a red lens shade instead of trying to use the backlight (which I find too bright anyway).
