Around here when I paddle in the winter with temps below freezing and I tip over I generally just stand back up on the ice, roll the kayak back upright, get back in, retrieve the ski poles I use for propulsion, and keep right on going. :) And, believe it or not, I actually *have* gone out on the ice in a kayak using ski poles for propulsion (to rescue a stranded dog).
