Thanks to all who responded to my VHF radio questions. I decided to go with the Icom m72. It is small, light weight, has the best battery with longest battery life, seemed to be the most water proof and as someone mentioned to me on Paddlewise if I need a back up battery buy an additional lithium ion battery to take with me. Icom said that a spare lithium battery that is fully charged after 3-4 weeks will still retain 95% of it's power. Thanks again Richard. P.S.
