How does the Paddle Canada instruction system compare with the BCU system? Are the levels essentially the same? Is the same degree of profficiency required for a "passing grade?" Are there any distinct differences? The Canadian levels are: Flatwater - an introduction to the basic paddle strokes. In Theory this class could be taught in a pool setting. The same course is taught to both sea kayakers and whitewater kayakers. Sea Kayak Level 1 - similar to flatwater, but to a higher standard - the goal is to be a proficient daytripper. Sea Kayak Level 2 - level 1 skills with some wind, plus basic camping skills - course includes an overnight camping trip. Sea Kayak Level 3 - similar to level 2 but in more challenging conditions Sea Kayak Level 4 - highest level available on freshwater Sea Kayak Level 5 - The person who completes this course is officially a "kayak god." :P --------------------------------------------------------------- Please limit all email attachments sent to this address to a maximum of 0.5MB.
