Geez, I missed this somehow. Imagine if the other side had a chance to
respond. It could have gone on for weeks!

I prefer an Aleut paddle anyway...

They have some of the exact same discussions we have. LOL.. I have got to
try a GP soon... there must be a 2x4 laying around the farm somewhere. I
wonder if it helps if it's treated lumber.

If it is treated lumber, remember not to breathe the fumes as you
work the wood. Or burn the shavings. That stuff really isn't good for
your health!

It wouldn't matter to the finished paddle, since the very thing treated layer of
wood will be removed long before the paddle is complete.

One of the preferred woods for Greenland paddles is western red cedar. While
not especially strong, a well-selected piece of WRC will be adequately strong,
light and rot resistant. It is also an easy to carve wood. Some wood selection
guidelines are at:

subject: [Paddlewise] Ruddered boat recommendations
Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2006 08:24:13 -0500
I'm looking for recommendations for a boat with a rudder, and a day hatch,
that handles well in rough conditions, and is fast. For the past several
years I've been paddling an NDK Explorer - I'd like something faster, with a
rudder since I'd like to have an easier time with my Pacific Action Sail. I
love the way the Explorer handles in surf and choppy seas, so I don't want
to give that up.

Right now, the boat I'm most interested in is the Mirage, produced in
Australia (many thanks to Peter O for his thorough review of that). The
other boat I thought seriously about was the QCC 600, but really don't want
to give up the day hatch, and I'm not as certain about that boat's handling
in rough water.

Any other recommendations much appreciated.

Dee

That's because many of them started out on Paddlewise. ;-)
