Mark, As you get more experienced with a GP, you will probably start using a canted stroke by tilting the top edge of the blade towards the bow. This will cause you paddle to dive quickly into the water until it bites or grabs. That's when you put power to the paddle. If you use the canted stroke, your blade will enter the water silently whether it's tips are rounded or not. Welcome to the club, you'll never go back.
