Hi Ken,

I am glad everything turned out all right. I am glad Tim is OK and he
recovered his PerformaL kayak. Hope he recovers the 400 USD paddle too.

I kept thinking about some alternatives that might have made things
slightly different.

One would be the paddle leash, that would have kept the paddle anb boat
together.

The other would be the practice of selfrescue with paddlefloat. I recall
some three years ago paddling with you and Juan Luis in the same Corpus
Chrsity bay. We were out to test the boats in heavy wind. Wind pulled my
paddle in an ackward position and got stuck on the lee side between
water and boat, and I went over. By the time you came back to assist me
I was sitting back on the boat with the paddlefloat as support. I did a
reentry and roll assisted witht the paddlefloat. Then you held my boat
while I pumped out the water and placed the sprayskirt and off we went.

On two other ocassions where things were the worst I have faced and went
over, did the same thing reaching shore with boat and gear, half
paddling and half supporting myself with the paddlefoat. Do you remember
the Chachalacas capsize?

Tim's adventure make me reflect about the need to practice more often
self rescues, just in case some storm like that comes my way.

Best Regards,
Rafael
