As I am researching tools that help Houston area canoeists and kayakers
make decisions to paddle or not, based on water levels, I have come
across a new tool that I think you will like too. This is the Advanced
Hydrologic Prediction Service from the National Weather Service. In
case you are wondering what a hydrograph is, here is their definition:

A hydrograph shows how the river level changes over time at a specific
location. Forecast hydrographs are displayed when flooding is expected,
otherwise the hydrograph for the past few days is provided, if the data
are available. At key river gages, such as along navigable rivers, daily
forecast hydrographs are provided, whether or not flooding is
anticipated.

The home page for this is: http://ahps.srh.noaa.gov
<http://ahps.srh.noaa.gov/> I see it covers not only the U.S. but some
of coastal Canada as well.

Of Houston/Galveston interest, river menus available are: Trinity
River, East and West Fork of the San Jacinto, San Jacinto River, Clear
Creek, Brazos River, San Bernard River, Colorado River. If you are
interested, for instance, in Buffalo Bayou, use the drop down menu at
San Jacinto River. One of the very nice features is that they define
the varying levels of "flood stage". This is a very nice integrated
tool for looking at water levels with multiple references to other
online sources of information. I'm sure this level of information is
available for other areas as well.
