For you evening paddlers in the southern hemisphere, check the horizon just after sunset. I took photos of the McNaught Comet from my backyard when it was visible from the northern hemisphere but they look nothing like these (what a show!): http://spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught_page14.htm <http://spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught_page14.htm> There are 14 pages of photos of McNaught taken by folks from all over the world beginning at this link on Jan 6 from Finland: http://spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught.htm <http://spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught.htm> And even more recent photos here: http://skytonight.com/community/gallery/skyevents/5129766.html Here's more current info about the "gaudy" McNaught Comet at spaceweather.com <http://spaceweather.com> Jan 22, 2007: http://spaceweather.com/ 'South of the equator, Comet McNaught is putting on a gaudy show <http://spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught_page14.htm>, popping out of the twilight with a "peacock tail" that amazes even experienced astronomers. It is visible from all parts of the southern hemisphere. North of the equator, the display is not gaudy at all. The comet's head is too far south to see, and only the wispiest fringes < http://spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught_page13.htm> of the comet's tail poke over the western horizon after sunset. No problem.
