Alex, I think if you hit the Garmin site, you can download what you need.
It pays to maintain the most current software.  It sounds like the previous
owner loaded BlueCharts onto it, which may have wiped out the POI and/or
the basemap portions that overlapped the BlueCharts he put on it.  Check
with Garmin and I suspect you can fix it.
