The shape and dimensions of the Old Town Loon are clearly like
those of the Kansas River boat. Has anyone seen the Old Town
Loon produced in red poly? It appears that the various
manufacturers color code their boats to the extent that they only
offer just one or only 2-3 color options for each model they produce.

The fellow I spoke to said the boat in the picture was produced
specifically for the Galyan's sporting goods chain of stores. Maybe
someone on this list has such a store near them where this boat is
on display. It seems that a number of manufactures have
reproduced this design with just enough trivial modifications in
detail to avoid patent fights.

A satelite image of the Kansas River in the area of the accident
shows a man-made dam that crosses about 95% of the river. At
the south end of the dam a set of rapids is visible. The river itself is
about 600 ft wide. About 600 feet downstream from the rapids,
there is an extensive sandbar parallel to the north bank of the river.
I have the idea (could be wrong) that both fishermen were sweep
through that short section of rapids. I will find out for sure in the
near future.

Thanks,
Chuck Sutherland
