Thanks Derek for the link. I think this topic was declared over-and-done-with last year on Paddlewise. I think the global warming discussion got a bit heated, you might say, or at least beat to death. Anyway, I just watched Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" last Friday night on DVD, so it was interesting to watch the Youtube presentation this Friday night. I watched the whole thing all the way through on the monitor. The show did answer some of the questions I had naturally wondered about (like the _complexity_ of some of the issues Al Gore raised -- issues he had not fully addressed from a purely scientific perspective, ones difficult to find information about that's free from political and financial motivating factors. In any event, I will personally attempt to maintain as small a footprint on this planet as I can and continue to support and believe fact-based conservation and legitimate environmental concerns. Everything from sharks to grizzly bears need our best conservation efforts regardless of theorized or eventually proven causative factors with carbon dioxide levels. Other pollutants and loss of habitat threaten both the environment I recreate in, and the environment that keeps me alive. I may need to use a fuel-cell VHF radio one day on the water one day in the future, after driving my hydrogen-powered vehicle to the seashore. I can't prognosticate with certainty too far ahead in terms of what our world should be required to do to facilitate in the development of alternative sources of energy. I do remember living in Pakistan in the 60's, seeing the poorest of poor collecting dung patties off the roadways outside our gates, to sell and cook meals with. Something wasn't right. That hasn't changed through the years of ignorance, ice age scares, and now global warming fears. In the mean time, I will enjoy the increasingly powerful storms generated by climate change when I'm able. I will enjoy the warmer, dryer summers we are experiencing. I will not feel guilty, but will act locally within my modest circle of influence. And I don't think environmental issues are not off-topic generally on Paddlewise.
