A quote about larger craft than our but still valid in every sense.

"I come to the conclusion that there is one major factor which
contributes to the ability of the boat to deal with extreme weather.
That is the need for an experienced, levelheaded and capable skipper,
with a thorough knowledge of the abilities and limitations of his own
boat. Such a skipper will bring his vessel and crew through almost
anything. In contrast, even the most seaworthy of boats may be at
risk in moderate weather without a competent skipper."

Dont know the man or his designs but I still like the quote. When I
encountered the wake of that container ship while fossil hunting only
one thing saved me and that was skills. But I still like to carry
equipment to augment those skills. Warm clothes, radio, phone, extra
water, masseuse, and perhaps a demure Geisha. It helps to have a high
volume boat with this kind of load.
