Now I know its a system that will needs some refinement and won't work with all paddlers, but I'm starting to gauge my ability as a kayaker by the gouges in my hull! The Kayakers Gouge Gauge Rating system I think I'll call it. I admit that the amount of gouges can have the opposite correlation depending on whether in your style of kayaking you try to avoid gouges or not, but either way it seems to say something. What can I say, I've got two tiny leaks in my hull and I'm so proud!!! How would you rate this one: http://www.rmskc.org/temp/pintail-ouch.jpg (pic of tail end of now tail-less Pintail after 3 days on the upper Colorado) Although I'm not so sure that the trait being gauged is 'ability'...although my ability to perform fiberglass repair did improve afterwards.
