That swimming thing of John's is a great joke. It works like this:

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/breaking_news/16
956010.htm

In this story a 34-yr old fellow was paddling with a friend in the
Kansas River. Workmen on shore saw the kayak go over and saw
one of the men swim to shore, while the other victim disappeared
back on March 6.

Some fishermen spotted the body on Wednessday, March 21.

The victim, who was not wearing a pfd, was the father of five
children.... But he died the way he wanted to, RIGHT! His right to
choose, he was experienced..paddled a few times last
summer..went swimming..what's to fear? Ask him why no pfd? The
answer is usually.."I don't plan to tip over!" There's your problem
then!

He had no idea what the issues were!
