Ken Fink always used to drive home the fetch and duration factor in his symposium talks. He felt most reports by kayakers over estimated wave heights. Ken even went so far as to state that many articles he's read were not properly corroborated by the writer or editor. He said he was going to write a book about waves, wind and swell, specifically geared for sea kayakers. I'm still waiting.
