Mark, I use a paddle float re-entry roll. On my website, you can see the paddle float I use, which is a small kickboart that I modified to fit on my paddle. It allows me to do somewhat of a sweep stroke to roll up. As a big guy, I find it much easier than trying to do a traditional outrigger paddlefloat reentry, especially in rougher conditions. The main drawback is a cockpit full of water, which I solve by having an electric bilge pump that I just love! I took a rolling class the end of last summer, but then didn't have much chance to practice, so I have to try that again once it warms up. Right now I just try to get used to swimming! I'd say practice a reentry roll. It's easier than it sounds and you might just like it! From what you have written and what I have seen in the videos you are obviously very comfortable with your self-rescue. Could you describe which technique you use? Could you go over any pros/cons you experienced with any other techniques for self-rescue. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
