Increased windage aside, there are times when a foam float can be  
used for extra lift
in a paddle-less roll.  It's also possible for people with weak rolls  
to access a foam float
while overturned, slip onto your paddle blade for a paddle-plus-float  
roll.
CO2 charged bladders would serve much the same purpose, but have  
their own downsides.

I prefer the double-bladder inflatable, too. But I've also heard the  
argument that
being tired and immersed in frigid water can hinder quick, effective  
breathing tube inflation.
