Increased windage aside, there are times when a foam float can be used for extra lift in a paddle-less roll. It's also possible for people with weak rolls to access a foam float while overturned, slip onto your paddle blade for a paddle-plus-float roll. CO2 charged bladders would serve much the same purpose, but have their own downsides. I prefer the double-bladder inflatable, too. But I've also heard the argument that being tired and immersed in frigid water can hinder quick, effective breathing tube inflation. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
