Well, 3 meter waves on some days, yes. Wind, almost every day, typically as pressure relief, so you might get a head wind or a tail wind. I have not paddled it, but it is probably seriously boring water, steep-to shorelines with difficult, ugly camping, having lots of clear cuts to admire, and little interesting paddling. If it were me, I'd take the steamer to Sechart and launch there. The steamer (Lady Rose / Frances Barkley) has charm, elan, hot food, and gets you there in half a day for not a whole lot of bucks. If it is interesting paddling enroute to the Brokens you want, take the steamer to Bamfield, launch there, and hit the Deers for a night or two, and then do the Brokens. All of this transiting between island groups is serious open water. I hope you are experienced. Within the Brokens, it is very protected, easy paddling; getting from the Deers to the Brokens might not be so easy. -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
