Are they one piece or two piece paddles?   When I leave my one-piece
whitewater paddles in my truck, I use a climbing nut 
(see here - http://tinyurl.com/2unf2k ) 

Wrapped around the shaft, then locked with a cable lock.  Wouldn't work with
a two-piece paddle.
