Quite a few years ago someone on Paddlewise gave the handy tip of  
putting a lasso around the cockpit coaming and tying it off to the  
bumper. This was to prevent the kayak from flying off the rack in  
case you rear ended someone. This was in addition to bow and stern  
lines.
