I read somewhere that everything should have at least three uses to justify its existence. An inflatable float can also double as a pillow and/or a thigh support if needed. A foam float can be used as a camp seat or an uncomfortable pillow. I also like a "clean deck" and find that a foam float gets in the way if I need to roll. It never hurts to own two floats, one of each, and use the one suited to the conditions. One of paddlers uses an inflatable and partially inflates it before going out.
