Derek: Using more, short pieces of "bungee" limits the travel of any one section to the stretch in that particular piece, while a single, continuous piece allows more total stretch at any given point -- any section that doesn't need to stretch can "share" it's stretch with the sections that do. I don't think one is neccessarily "better", but have a preference: I like one long strand -- you can have a cleaner look (fewer knots), I believe fewer knots are less likely to fail; and I like to be able to play with what's stretching to allow the center to bulge up more and have the sides or whatever more stretchy. my two cents.
