I also ran across this:

This hits close to home, the surivor lives about 7 miles from me and I've
never crossed paths either on the water or at pool sessions. From the news
reports it happened Fri June 22. From NDBC the winds were <13kts that day
and air temp ~10 C at Devils Island not too far from Meyers beach. Mid
Superior bouy was < 14kts, <.4 meter waves and air temp 5 C. So kind of a
cool day and not too windy if I read everything correctly.
