Wonder about the CO2 emissions generated from propelling a kayak?

G'day John,

If you include a life cycle analysis of the fuel then it would depend on your diet eg: vegetarian, grass fed or grain fed beef hamburgers. Grain fed would come off worse for CO2 produced during manufacture, but a vegetarian diet is by no means the solution with CH4 produced during fuel combusion having 23 times the global warming potential of CO2. Unless of course a fault in one's electric pump ignites the CH4 rapidly converting it to CO2, ejecting one from the boat and sinking it in the process.

Assuming one survives then we again have to consider the need to buy a boat and calculate an offset for the greenhouse gas emitted when making it - which brings me back to the original question:~)

How much CO2 is emitted in making a plastic, fibreglass, carbon-kevlar or wooden boat?

BTW thanks for putting a decent title on my original post - I'm getting a bit careless with my typing. And if I ever write that article I'll certainly share it.

All the best, PeterO
