The most basic thing is to record the Hull Identification Number (HIN) some place safe where you can find it again. Maybe take a digital photo of it as well. Try and find the other location this number should be written inside the kayak somewhere (on more recently made kayaks anyway). You could also etch in your drivers license number beginning with your two letter state code followed by DL for driver's license and then the number like: CA DL #??????????? Someplace inside the cockpit and then in another hidden location that you could point to if the other numbers have been altered or obliterated. Best to not get it stolen in the first place.
