I know that these threads come up occasionally and I often don't pay attention to them because I already have a roof rack setup that works well. However, a few weeks ago the transmission in my old vehicle died so I had to get a new car. Since we were not planning on getting a new vehicle until our other car (a Civic Hybrid) was paid off we looked at the used market. I ended up getting a 2004 Pontiac Vibe, which is essentially the same car as a Toyota Matrix. It has a factory roof rack but I want to put a Yakima or Thule rack on it. The rack is located at the rear of the vehicle and only extends to about halfway forward on the cab. My concern is that the racks would be too close together and would place a touring kayak such that a significant portion would be hanging off the back. Anyone else have a Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix, and if so could you describe your roof rack setup?
