Peter O, I think one of the best seafaring tunes for paddlers is Stan
Rogers' Barrett's Privateers:

Stan Rogers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Rogers
Barrett's Privateers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett%27s_Privateers
Lyrics: http://www.tsrocks.com/s/stan_rogers_texts/barretts_privateers.html

This is a gutsy, bloody, irreverent tune, the true sort for seafaring folks
of either gender.

I offer it humbly, in a gentle effort to remain on-topic, and always
relevant. When we flipped the hull of the boat I am building, I made all
the heavy lifters sing the tune, accompanied by Stan on the boom box,
lyrics in hand. I thought it went well, but the boys were not entirely
happy (see here: http://tinyurl.com/2dpscp ; dial back to observe the
flipping). In fact, a couple weeks later, one of the helpers, my uphill
neighbor, asked another (my downhill neighbor) to assist him in remounting
the canopy on the bed of his pickup. DHN's response: "Uh, well, okay,
just so long as we don't have to sing!"

Neither of these gentlemen has every owned a wing paddle, run a rapid, or
stunk mightily after a week in neoprene, but they did join forces for a
hearty round of Stan Rogers. A glass of Irish ale would be good right no,
hey, mateys?
