In response to Kaspers' comments, I've used long un-feathered West Greenland styled paddles for years. I also carry a ultra short back up paddle as well in the same style which is very labor intensive. One does get used to what you use but I find this style and dimension easy on the wrists and shoulders hour after hour plus the rolling leverage is great and due to the slim blade isn't affected by wind much. I apologize if I'm repeating comments on someone else thread but I haven't had access to the whole discussion. I also put a great deal of pressure on mussels....I eat the little guys as often as possible, raw or in a white wine sauce.
