No doubt one obtains lift with a GP if the blade is angled up slightly relative to its path of motion. But beyond that, if the paddle is flat on one side and slightly curved, edge-to-edge, (symetric edge-to-edge, uniform curve) on the powerface, then when this paddle is sliced through the water, as when sculling or doing a skulling draw stroke, the paddle will exhibit "lift" away from the flat side even if the angle of attack is zero relative to the path of the slice through the water. We are not talking about paddling strokes, just sculling strokes. The beauty of GP type paddles is that they don't cost more than the stick of wood, and you are ENTITLED to shape them to suit yourself.
