I am in the market for new cold-weather gloves/mitten/pogies and would
welcome any first-hand recommendations for handwear that will:

*	Not absorb water even after prolonged, repeated use. (I have heard
criticisms of some neoprene or other synthetic paddling gear that will do
this.)
*	Provide insulation in air temps substantially below freezing (e.g.,
between 10 degrees and 40 degrees F), with additional wind-chill factors on
top of that.
*	Be durable on camping trips in a variety of circumstances (sand,
snow, lots of sun, wind, moderate mechanical abuse).

They need not necessarily:

*	Have fingers, although that would be nice.
*	Be ultra-inexpensive.

In addition, if you have any recommendation for the equivalent in footwear,
that would be great, too.

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom,

The only hand gear that works for me at those temperatures is the NRS
Toaster Mitt. It has no fingers which is a pain, but that is why it works as well
as it does, less exposed surface area. They do tend to get very clammy and
damp after awhile; right now I'm thinking of what I might use as an absorbent
under layer, no data on that yet.

No affiliation with NRS but I do have a lot of their gear.

(snip)

We use Bering motorbike winter gloves year round, if any! If you fill them
with water you'll get wet, but for nonsubmersible use they excellent -
I've put my hand into the water as far as the glove goes, about a foot
down to the longest finger, and no leaks! Easy to put on and take off, far
better than any neoprene I've used!

BMW's winter gloves seem to do the job, too - but was a bit more expensive,
so I have no practical experience with theirs!
