Crocs are ugly. They do slip. They are bad paddling shoes for all but the
most benign of put in/take out.

But....

they make a great, lightweight camp shoe. Backpacking or paddling they excel
in the camp shoe department. If you are worried about wet socks use
Sealskinz.

Crocs and socks! A kindred soul. My yoga instructor gave me an odd
look when I showed up in shorts, white socks and Crocs. What can I
say? We all do what we are comfortable doing. I will say she was
wearing butt floss under her tights. Yes I am sure.

Mion --> Crocs --> socks --> butt floss

This thread is going downhill faster than most. I used to wear my
off-brand Crocs--with poly socks, NOT white--for most boating, including
WW canoeing. They will stay on in a Class II swim (Rescue practice; I
don't flip in Class II much). Didn't have too much problem with
slippage. But now I've discovered Keen sandals and wear them for
everything, including work. Didn't hurt that I picked up a pair at an
REI scratch'n'dent sale for $20. I'm way too cheap to pay $80 a pair.

I agree. I bought my Crocs for use as summertime slippers -- especially
good for those times when I have to walk across wet grass in the morning
to the compost bin. But I have also discovered that when I have to get up
in the middle of the night while camping, they are easier to slip on than
just about any other footwear I own, so they are now standard gear on my
camping trips.

My camp shoe days may be drawing to a close with the imminent launching of
the mutha-ship. In which I will recline at leisure with slippers, hot
chocolate, a good book, and a heater after a good day's paddling adventure.

I do have windows through which I can watch my friends in camp slogging from
tent to kitchen tarp and back.

Ahhh.... it is *so* good to look forward to being able to mimic the rich.
