I have a couple of bungee cords to hold my helmet in the cockpit as it doesn't fit in the day hatch. After your experience I doubt their reliability. Theres a story in our latest club magazine about a paddler injured through not wearing a helmet in the surf and I'm starting to think that for short trips maybe the best place to store a helmet is on my head. When I get back to regular kayaking I'll see how it works out. BTW did you ever try that ICOM radio?
