I hate the cleats on the foredeck. I cannot stand the rigging excess I see in many of them. I like forward and aft bulkheads and prefer a day hatch, though it is not absolutely necessary. I can get by with just a sea sock, but still, that has some drawbacks. I do not have a problem with the Mariner aesthetics otherwise. I think the lines of them are quite nice and the build quality an industry leader. For what it's worth my old Valley Jubillee HM with the skegged stern had enough stern rocker to make it maneuverable (when on edge) but track like a train in beam winds. I look forward to test driving an Xcite one day as there are some interesting aspects to it.
